Sylvia Crain What's Up? Fine Art Photography | ||||||
Dear Photography Enthusiast, It has been awhile since my last communication and there has been a lot going on. I had a very successful solo exhibition of my Collective Expression portfolio at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts in February. I then turned my attention to experimenting with infrared photography and rediscovering my black & white roots. Most recently I have been photographing and printing infrared and black & white images. I also took a carbon printing workshop. Carbon printing was developed in the 1850's as a way to resolve fading of images in early photographic processes and is very archival. I am in the process of gathering supplies and setting up an area for carbon printing. I have not abandoned color and continue to create color images and to add new expressions to Collective Expression. Six Shooters is a group show highlighting the work of six New Mexico photographers. December 11 - 13, 2009 Panel Discussion: December 12th 2pm Opening Reception: December 11th 4 - 8pm Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 6pm 1228 Parkway Art Space This exhibit will feature some of my new infrared and black & white work. Infrared photography is new to me and I am drawn to it because of the surreal and altered perceptions which can be created in everyday scenes. I am also thoroughly enjoying moving back to the simplicity of shape and form in black & white photography. You can view some of my explorations here. |

With my work hanging in several venues around the southwest, you might expect to see me at some of these events but life has a way of conspiring against us. Before I knew about any of these opportunities, I had already planned a trip to Africa. I will be visiting my niece Christina who is studying there and exploring a new continent. I am taking both my color and infrared cameras and hope to come back with some exciting new images. Although I will not be around to see any of the exhibits I do hope you have an opportunity to visit at least one of the shows. Thank you for your interest in my work. If you know of others who may be interested in my imagery, I would appreciate your forwarding this message to them. Sincerely, Sylvia |
