Post Office Bay
Located on the Island of Floreana in the Galapagos, Post Office Bay was named for the wooden box where letters and packages were exchanged by whaling ships moving between Europe and the Pacific in the late 1700’s. At this frequent stopover, sailors from homebound ships collected and hand delivered parcels from outbound sailors. It has been kept active over the centuries by shippers, round the world sailors, and Galapageños . Today, tourists exchange postcards and leave other mementos of their visit to the Galapagos.
