Glad it’s the Weekend

Before I move to the current, I must mention the parade in Ciudad Vieja last weekend. The procession of the Virgin of Concepcion. Although we didn’t see her directly(that procession), we did go to the parade that leads up to the fiesta. Lots of fun floats,…. all with angels and devils on them. The same theme repeated on each float.

An angel on top of the world.

The devils all (for unknown reasons) all have log golden curls....

Then there is one special float with fieros…. men dressed as couples, with of course half the men in drag. In this machismo culture, this particular event is a perfectly acceptable thing to do…. for fiestas on floats. The family does not seem to be able to describe the history of this tradition although in his youth Don Mario (Daniel’s Dad) was a fiero. No pics seem to exist and Daniel says, “no way, I’m not doing that!”

A few fieros.

Fast forward to the next weekend….

We’ve now completed our first week of school. LOTS of talking which was what we wanted and needed. I guess we are getting our bad Spanish sorted… slowly. We make the same mistakes over and over. We are comprehending and hearing a bit more, but oh so much to learn. Funny, Jim and I seem to be able to do one good day of learning, then one not so good day, then another good one. Hummmmm.

We are ready for the weekend. Another birthday party; Daniel’s other sister Arjelia’s birthday and it is also the weekend for the Christmas tree decorating.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the wonderful dinner Jim and I had last evening. No food art, just a description. I had steak coated in pepper and chocolate powder with chocolate pasta. Not sweet at all and very tasty! Jim had a very lovely carrot and ginger soup and an open face steak sandwich with wasabi mayo and tomatoes. The whole thing with a bottle of wine was $40. Every bit as good anything we can get in Santa Fe. Yum!
