A glimpse of Ecuador

Ok, we’ve not left yet – a week from today. However online journals (I hate the “b” word) are new to me, so a bit of testing is in order.  I’ve added a couple of pics of Quito from our 2007 visit to give you a taste of the city.

A few facts to set the stage:

  • Population 2.1 million – the biggest city Jim and I have lived in.
  • Elevation 9200 ft (2800 m).  The pic to the left was taken from about 10 – 11K feet.  Pichincha is over 15,000 feet.
  • Latitude – the northern part of the city is within a mile of the equator – just south of mitad del mundo.
  • Temperatures are in the mid-60’s during the day to low 50’s at night.

All in all a lovely place to study Spanish, get a bigger dose of another culture and explore more of Ecuador.
