Chasing the Sun

Back to Mexico.  It has been 10 years!  Jim and I love Mexico and rode our motorcycles, Barb and Joe, over 16,000 miles through the country in the early ’00’s and before.  Then we got sidetracked and saw other great things.  We love Mexico; the people are so very nice, the views and environment are so varied, and the culture is incredibly rich.

We “missed” our Christmas travels this year and and left the end of January.  The cold, clouds and darkness had taken their toll.  We needed to get out of Dodge.  We left on January 31st (this time in the car), hearing their might be snow in Santa Fe that night.  Fighting a headwind from the west, we spent the night in Sierra Vista, AZ, headed for Nogales and Mexico. Waking in the morning after a windy night….  a bit of snow and 37 degree weather.  The Gods are toying with us…  How dare they!

The snow mostly stuck on the ground and melted fast.

We forged ahead, crossed into Mexico to see cars with snowmen…!  Not a common site, but not unheard of in Northern Mexico.

Snow cars. Not common in Mexico.

10 years.  The roads are much better.  The county seems much more prosperous; businesses, cars, the sense of place.  Some things are the same.  We call, “Is the ferry going to Baja tomorrow?”  No se (we don’t know)…  Head for Guymas and hope.  Speaking of a change of place.  Guymas was dead and gone last time we were here.  Now, vibrant, prosperous and lively!  What a nice change!

To the ferry dock in the morning and taking the ferry, or heading down the coast and take the Topolobampo ferry tomorrow to Baja.  Some things never change.

Sunset looking towards San Carlos (still never been there!) The clouds are gone, the warmth is here!
